Nestle Recalls Nesquik Chocolate Powder Drink Mix Due to Salmonella Risk

Nestle USA, is recalling some of their Nesquick powder chocolate mix because there is a possibly of salmonella contamination.

The popular children’s chocolate drink mix was voluntarily recalled after Nestle was notified by one of their suppliers, Omya Inc., they were recalling batches of it’s calcium carbonate, a food additive used in a wide range of consumer products, due to possible salmonella contamination.

Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include abdominal cramps, fever, and diarrhea. These symptoms can take 8 to 72 hours to develop after consumption and can last up to a week. Salmonella can also result in hospitalization and be life-threatening for people with weak immune systems, the elderly, infants and pregnant women.

The recalled products were distributed nationally and have a “Best if sold by” date of October 2014. They include the following products and unit production codes, which can be found on the bottom of the canister.
• 40.7-ounce canisters with UPC code 0 28000 68230 9 and production codes 2282574810 or 2282574820
• 21.8-ounce canisters with UPC code 0 28000 68090 9 and production codes 2278574810, 2278574820, 2279574810, 2279574820, 2284574820, 2284574830, 2285574810, 2285574820, 2287574820, 2289574810 or 2289574820
• 10.9-ounce canisters with UPC code 0 28000 67990 3 and production code 2278574810

No other sizes or flavors of Nesquik powder drink mix are affected by this recall. People who purchased the recalled Nesquik chocolate powder drink mix should return the recalled product to their place of purchase for a full refund.
