No Indictments By Special Grand Jury In Fatal Police Shooting of John Crawford III at Beavercreek Walmart

The Crawford Family and Attorney Michael Wright Comment On Decision Made By Special Grand Jury Not To Indict Police Officers Involved In The Fatal Shooting of John Crawford III In The Beavercreek Walmart

The Grand Jury hearing evidence in the fatal shooting of John Crawford III has decided not to indict the two Ohio police officers who shot and killed Mr. Crawford to death at the Beavercreek Walmart, Reports Wright & Schulte LLC. According to the WHIO, the grand jury, which was just seated this past Monday, decided not to indict the Beavercreek police officers on murder, negligent homicide or reckless homicide after hearing witness statements and reviewing audio and video footage. The family of John Crawford III and their attorney Michael Wright, of Wright & Schulte LLC, who is representing the family, found the Grand Jury’s decision “Incomprehensible” A statement released after the findings by the family of Mr. Crawford stated; “The Crawford family is extremely disappointed, disgusted and confused,” “They are heartbroken that justice was not done in the tragic death of their only son.”

The special grand jury heard evidence supplied by Mark Piepmeier and Stacy DeGraffenreid, special prosecutors appointed by Attorney General Mike DeWine, surrounding the fatal police shooting of John Crawford III while he was shopping at a Beavercreek Walmart on August 5th. Mr. Piepmeier admitted that John Crawford III was doing “nothing wrong” at Walmart when he was shot to death by the Beavercreek Police, and the release of certain portions of the security video confirmed this fact.

John Crawford III, a 21-year-old resident of Cincinnati, was shot and killed on August 5th, by Ohio police in the Beavercreek Walmart while holding a MK-177 BB/Pellet air rifle that he had taken off of a Walmart shelf while talking on his cellphone with the mother of his two children. A 911 caller reported Mr. Crawford was waving what appeared to be a rifle, but later recounted his statement after reviewing the surveillance video.

John H. Crawford, Jr., father of the deceased, said the family is in shock and disbelief that a young man can go into a store a patron and not come out alive.

“If he did nothing wrong, if he did not commit a crime, then why is he not here with us?” he said. “I’m at a loss for words. I’m appalled.”

John Crawford Jr, the deceased’s father, and attorney Michael Wright, have stated that Mr. Crawford was not doing anything wrong at the time of his death. “You can see exactly what occurred in this video,” Crawford family attorney Michael Wright said in a statement. “And what you will see is Mr. Crawford doing nothing wrong and shot and killed by these police officers.” “This is an unarmed man holding a BB gun getting shot and killed inside Walmart,” Wright said.
Special prosecutor Mark Piepmeier was quoted by The Daily News as saying; “Crawford committed no crime the night of his death”

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio And FBI’s Civil Rights Division Conducting Independent Reviews
Shortly after the Grand Jury’s decision not to indict the Beavercreek police officers, U.S. Attorney Carter M. Stewart, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio announced his office, along with the department’s Civil Rights Division and the FBI will all conduct an independent review for any civil rights violations. Mr. Crawford and Mr. Wright have adamantly called on the Department of Justice to investigate the shooting. In a statement made to WHIO, the Dayton NAACP chapter president Derrick Forward said, “It’s a sad day in the history of Dayton. We will be calling for a full and complete investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice”.
